A non-governmental organisation, The
Counselling Ambassadors Organisation, TCAO, says the Yuletide will not
be complete if poor Nigerians are not smiling.
The founder of TCAO, Pastor Iyabo Obasa,
on Monday at an empowerment event said privileged Nigerians must bridge
the gap for the poor by making them part of the festivities through the
provision of foodstuffs and materials that could change their lives.
She said her organisation decided to embark on the programme to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society.
“Those who don’t have anything to eat
during this festive season will get bags of rice and other food items
from TCAO; some will be given clothes and other items,” she said.
Obasa, a retired permanent secretary
from the Lagos State Civil Service, added that 250,000 persons had been
empowered by TCAO, saying some indigent persons from other parts of the
country would be given money for business.
Items given to the beneficiaries ranged from deep freezers to food items and cash.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Florence
Folorunsho, said she got a refrigerator and money to start business,
while another beneficiary, Mrs. Atinuke Ojo, said she came to commend
the organisation as her daughter had become a graduate due to the
financial assistance from the organisation.
“Since 2008, when my daughter got
admission to the Lagos State University, TCAO has been paying her fees
and she has just graduated,” Ojo said.
