The Governor of Lagos State, Mr.
Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday called for support for families of members
of the Nigeria Armed Forces, who sacrificed their lives in the line of
duty.
Ambode, who spoke in Ikeja, Lagos, at
the inauguration of the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Emblem Appeal
Fund, urged corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to donate
generously towards their welfare.
The governor, while announcing the
donation of N5m towards the welfare of families of the departed
officers, said the courage of members of the armed forces had resulted
in the return of relative peace to the North-Eastern part of the
country.“We must do everything possible not to
allow the widows and orphans of these gallant officers to regret the
sacrifices made by their husbands and fathers.
“Whatever we do today to make life
better for these people, including those officers and men who suffered
lifelong disability, will go a long way to motivate those still on
active service to give their best to the nation,” the governor said.
The Chairman of the Lagos State branch
of the Nigerian Legion, Colonel Samuel Akanbi (Retd.), commended the
state governor for engaging members of the legion to provide security
services to the state.
He appealed to him to see to the replacement of their dilapidated bus, which was approved by Ambode.
