The Nigeria Custom Service
on Monday, February 27, 2017, said the Oyo and Osun command has
targeted generating N20.6billion in 2017.
The command said it generated N14.8billion in the outgone year 2016. The 2017 projection has an addition of N5.2billion.
The command controller, Temitope Ogunkua, mad the revelation, during media briefing on the achievement of the command in 2016.
The Nation reports that the command also seized 9000 bags of imported rice in a warehouse in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
According
to him, the rice were smuggled into the country and the command
anti-smuggling team raided the Ibadan market, seized the bags and
arrested one suspect.
The seized bags of rice, he said, had a duty of N88,776,000 paid on them, adding that the raid was carried out in the night.
Ogunkua
said the seizure of the rice and any other products proved to be
smuggled into the country illegally was in line with section 147 of
Customs and Excise Management Act, 1990 as amended.
He revealed that 1207 vehicles paid duty of N320,329,797 between January and December 2016.
He said 266 packages of cannabis sativa
were confiscated and handed over to the Nigerian Drug Law Agency within
the last one year.
He added: “A total of
9000 (50kg) bags of smuggled imported rice with a duty paid value of
N88,776,000.00 was seized and evacuated from a warehouse by the
Command’s anti-smuggling team in conjunction with the Federal Operations
Unit (FOU), Zone A few weeks ago.”
