5 natural ways to improve skin quality

5 natural ways to improve skin quality

The quest for a healthy and radiant skin doesn't need the fast, expensive and most times, and skin chemicals of the pharmaceuticals.

In fact, the storehouse of nature offers a more holistic approach as its remedies never fail.

However, it is important to state here that the leading factors that take a toll on the quality and texture of your skin are stress, lack of sleep, poor nutrition, pollution, damage from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, excessive smoking and drinking.

Though there are numerous beauty care products that promise a clear and glowing skin, it is advisable to try some of the following simple and easy home remedies to improve the quality of your skin.
Here are five proven ways to enrich your skin naturally
1. Lemon

The citric acid in lemon helps keep the skin clear by removing dead cells, and its vitamin C content helps reduce dark spots by increasing the cell renewal process.

Lemon also has bleaching properties that will help improve your overall skin complexion.

Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it.

Do this daily for as long as you can.

Another option is squeezed the juice of one-half lemon and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off.

To exfoliate your skin, mix two teaspoons each of lemon juice and sugar. Apply the mixture on your face, neck, and hands. Scrub in a circular motion and leave it on for 10 minutes.

Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. This remedy tone once a week promotes skin glow
2. Honey

The moisturizing effect of honey coupled with its antibacterial properties ensures the skin is healthy and radiant.

Apply raw honey directly on the skin. Let it dry uninfluenced and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. The water content in honey will deeply moisturize the skin, making it soft and tender.

This simple remedy could be done once daily or every other day.

Alternatively, mix two teaspoons of milk and one teaspoon of honey. Then add one teaspoon of gram flour and mix well.

Apply it all over your face. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse it off with warm water. Use this face mask once a week to enjoy radiant and clear skin.
3. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera has many benefits for the skin. Its antibacterial properties help kill bacteria that cause acne, anti-inflammatory properties that help soothe irritated skin, and astringent properties that help heal scars.

Additionally, aloe vera moisturizes the skin and stimulates new skin cell growth.

Apply aloe vera gel on your face with a cotton ball by extracting it from the leaf. Allow it to dry on its own for about half an hour, and then rinsed off with lukewarm water.

Follow this remedy daily or several times per week
4. Baking soda

Baking soda balances the skin pH level, which is very important to maintain clear skin.

In addition, its mild antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties help deal with problems like acne, pimples, and spots.

It also works as an excellent exfoliating agent to keep the skin free from dirt, impurities and dead skin cells.

Mix one teaspoon of baking soda with one teaspoon of water or lemon juice to make a paste. Cleanse your face and use the paste to gently exfoliate the skin.

Finally, rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat it dry with a towel. Do this twice or three times a week.
5. Baking soda & honey

You should mix one teaspoon each of baking soda and raw honey. Apply this mixture onto damp skin and massage gently for just one minute.

Wash with lukewarm water; and splash some cold water on your face to close the pores. Do this once a week for effective result.

Ten Mistakes You Must Avoid In Your CV -

Ten Mistakes You Must Avoid In Your CV -

A Curriculum Vitae is your own way of communicating your abilities, experiences, qualifications and skills in order to secure a job you desire.

Writing your CV requires conscious effort. Employers have also identified some flaws that reduce the chances of job seekers getting call backs simply because they do not know or are careless about the presentation of their CV.

For the purpose of this writing, we would list and discuss ten mistakes applicants must refrain from in order to scale through job interviews and get the appointment afterwards:

Irrelevant information:
No employer has all the time in the world to check through your CV; they scan through your CV within a minute or less. So, do not fill it with needless information that would only jeopardize your chances. Data like religion, height, weight, etc. should be excluded.

Hiding significant information:
What else does your CV do if not to sell your personality vis-à-vis the job you aspire to and this should be communicated right away to your prospective employer in your CV. You can use highlights or bullet points to emphasize your strong areas and important information.

Ambiguous expressions:
On no condition should you use words or phrases like ‘several’, ‘a few’, ‘many’ in your CV, which are not definite enough. They can only make your CV unclear and hence, become unacceptable to your interviewer. Especially when you are meant to state the years of work experience, mention exactly the number of years, designation or role, and nothing more. Perhaps, you made significant sales in your previous employment, state precisely the figure or amount for your interviewer to know that you are sure of your responses, and that you are not faking it.

Wide or close gaps between employment dates:
The onus lies on you to explain the reasons you were out of employment for such a long time, maybe due to a professional course, travel, or any other necessities, etc. In case it is a close gap in date, which some employers frown at, you should let them know the reason too. You may offer that the close dates or short stay in an employment is occasioned by a job opportunity in your professional field or interest, necessitating the shift, etc.

Being economical with the truth:
Know that your CV is representative of your worth. However, do not include a qualification and work title that you know nothing about. Saying exactly what you are or have (qualities, previous salary, grade level, skills, etc.) presents you as an honest person and that could be just what the interviewer or employer needs to approve you as the best fit for the job.

Too lengthy expressions:
Describe yourself or ability in the shortest possible way because it will help you keep your employer interested in going through your CV. Adopting a short but precise CV helps keep your material to a maximum of two pages, which is acceptable for the so busy employers who have tons of other stuff to attend to.

Heavy graphics design:
Focus on the most important things, which are your experience, qualification and skills. Employers are interested in what you have got to offer other than mundane add-ons (though they may cite it in the course of interview). Let your CV be typed in a screen friendly font like Ariel, Times New Roman, etc. and with a size not exceeding 10 or 12 for the body text, while the heading and subheading can take a slightly larger size.

A clueless introduction:
Instead of a vague introduction, we recommend a direct expression of your ability or experience with words like “A sales representative with 10 years of work experience in the financial sector”. This is acceptable than saying ‘results-oriented, team player, achiever,’ etc. Mind you, the interviewer’s first port of call might be your introduction and if you can get the required attention there, you will be good for it.

Enlisting Referees:
Except it is called for, do not, for any reason, list a number of referees, which takes up a lot of space in your CV. Better state that ‘References will be presented on request’. Preferably too, list your references on another sheet of paper for evaluation by the employer.

Grammatical errors:
This is termed a credibility killer by some people. Do not ruin your chances of getting a job by any error in grammar, spelling, or expression. Therefore, make sure you check and cross check your CV for errors and get someone else to do this for you too.

Great Ways To Spend ASUU Strike Or Any Holiday Period -

Great Ways To Spend ASUU Strike Or Any Holiday Period -

It’s no longer news that ASUU has gone on strike. There’s no idea how short this will last but going by the news, expect another week.

Yeah, I can relate with how annoying the trend is. Take it from someone who’s sat at least a year of strike actions put together.

Looking on the bright side, ASUU strike does provides you extra time you can put to great use. This same can be said of other ‘holiday’ periods.

For this article, a holiday refers to anytime school is not in session. It may be semester breaks, strike actions or the unfortunate case of waiting a year to rewrite JAMB. It could also be the months of waiting for NYSC call up.

In any case, this time is valuable and you can’t afford to blow it away. There are tons of stuff you can do with this free time. Even if you may have misused some of this times in the past, this is one time to make things right. Here are 7 ways you can make the most of this period…

1. Intern or get a small-time job
This may be a great time to draft your CV and pitch yourself to employers. Already, there are a couple opportunities since the announcement of this strike.

Walk around your area, speak to older friends and colleagues. Actively, seek opportunities to improve on your work experience. The pay may be peanuts, but the experience is worth much more.

2. Join the family business
Some of us have ‘family businesses’. This the business our parents have been doing for some time. It can be a big-time company or a small supermart. Whichever one it is, it’s not a bad idea spending holiday working here. It’s one way to give back and also add to your professional experience.

3. Learn a new skill
I have an engineer friend who makes a living today from graphics design. He learnt it while we were in school. There’s almost no limit to the skills you can learn during holidays. If anything, start with learning basic and intermediate computer operations (if you don’t know that by now). Code schools are also popping up everywhere so you can join one. You can also join the growing community of Nigerian freelancers and hone your skills.

4. Be active in church, other groups
Refuse to be an onlooker anywhere you find yourself. Be a part of people who make things work. Join a group in church, your community, and be active in it. These experiences also contribute shaping the person you’ll be in the future.

5. Travel
There’s no harm in travelling if you can afford it. Travelling is also a form of learning. If you happen to have relations scattered around Nigeria and abroad, consider travelling. Life’s too short to not explore more places.

6. Read books
I don’t mean only course-related books. Take up a novel, read a book on investment, study Nigerian history, look up spiritual books. Read far and wide.

7. Have fun
Well, you still have to catch some fun. Plus, it’s perfectly okay to spoil yourself a little. You can binge watch your favourite TV series, play football, go to more events etc etc.
