Medical And Dental Council Of Nigeria Visits EKSU College Of Medicine For Accreditation


The Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Samuel Oye Bandele has received a delegation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, (MDCN) who are on a visit for the accreditation of the advance stages of the college of Medicine Ekiti State University.
The MDCN team was led by the Acting Registrar of the council, Dr T.A.B Sanusi who had as part of his entourage professors of medicine drawn from various Nigerian Universities.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele said two weeks after his inauguration as Vice-Chancellor in December 2015, he visited the headquarters of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria in Abuja to convey the desire of Ekiti people to have our own fully accredited college of medicine which would be a standard in the country. Professor Bandele said the Ekiti State University’s College of Medicine has come of age and is reputed to have the highest quality of tutors and managers who have guided the current medical students to their clinical stages.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the process of accreditation exercise in Universities which he said has raised the bar of academic standard, improve quality and promote healthy competition. According to him, “If not for accreditation exercises, Universities in this country would just look like glorified secondary schools”.
The Acting Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. T.A.B Sanusi commended the University for the recent improvement adding that the accreditation team is in EKSU to offer advice and assess the readiness of the College of Medicine for the important accreditation of the college by the MDCN.
Dr. Sanusi appreciated the effort of Ekiti indigenes who have contributed to the study of medicine in the world and assured the Vice-Chancellor of their thorough professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The provost, EKSU College of Medicine, Professor Kehinde Oluwadiya who was at the occasion expressed the readiness of the college to meet the criteria for accreditation.
In the MDCN team were eminent professors such as Professor C. Shehu, Professor Abba and Professor Yinka Buari.
