“FA Cup and Europa League Are Not Big Trophies” – Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino Mocks Arsenal And Manchester United

Tottenham manager, Mauricio Pochettino has given a withering assessment of English football’s domestic trophies and believes the Premier League and Champions League are the only honours really worth winning.

Tottenham finished runners-up in the Premier League last season, with many pundits suggesting they need to win a first trophy – any trophy – to develop a winning mentality to bring about bigger and better prizes.
But Pochettino disagrees, playing down the importance of Arsenal and Manchester United’s successes in the FA Cup and Europa League respectively.
Instead, the Argentine coach is fixated more on ‘big’ trophies such as the Premier League, and admits he would be desperately disappointed if his time in charge of Spurs ended without winning one.
He told reporters:
‘I need to explain what it means to win a trophy. I want to win the Premier League.
‘I don’t say that it’s not important to win the League Cup or the FA Cup or the Europa League.
‘But for me every season Tottenham needs to have the possibility of winning the Premier League and of winning the Champions League. The two most important trophies. That is our challenge.
‘If one day I am not capable of winning the Premier League with Tottenham or we don’t have the chance to win it, I would be disappointed.’
He expanded further, explaining:
‘Sometimes you can win the League Cup because of the draw.
‘Or the Europa League because the big clubs are more focused on other competitions. Sorry, with full respect, to win a trophy, for me, is to win the Premier League, or the Champions League.
‘There’s often a lot of talk Tottenham need a trophy. But no, we need a big trophy.’
