Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp refused to be drawn on the future of Philippe Coutinho on Thursday as speculation escalates about another Barcelona bid for the Brazilian forward .
Coutinho handed in a transfer request in a bid to force Klopp to sell him before the summer transfer deadline but Liverpool refused to budge even in the face of offers of over £ 100 million ($ 136 million , 112 million euros) from Barca .
The Brazilian is out of Friday’ s FA Cup Merseyside derby at home to Everton with a thigh strain , but Klopp expects the Brazil international to be available to face Premier League leaders Manchester City on January 14 .
“ I think he is in a bunch of available players for the City game ,” said Klopp . “All the things I could say now will only create stories . I have nothing to say about it.
Despite another injury to Coutinho coinciding with the opening of the transfer window — he missed the whole of August with a back problem — Klopp is already looking towards the City game to bring him back and dodged both the transfer speculation and reports that the player believes he has played his last match for the Reds .
“ I opened the door half - way because I mentioned it was the transfer window but there is nothing I can say about it which would help me , the player or the club. ”
In August , the club ’ s owners publicly stated that Liverpool would not sell the Brazilian . There has been no such declaration so far this winter, and a bid has yet to materialise from Spain despite growing talk of another move for the playmaker .
Asked whether he had to consider the possibility of having to replace Coutinho in January, Klopp added : “ Whatever you can consider it is not my cup of tea . I really have nothing to say. Maybe 80 per cent of the cameras are here for these answers — that ’ s a waste of time . ”
Both Coutinho and top scorer Mohamed Salah, out with a groin injury , will miss the visit of Everton but the match could see a debut for £ 75 million signing Virgil van Dijk .
The Dutch international completed his move from Southampton on January 1 but Klopp is in no rush to send out the world ’ s most expensive defender .
“ I can imagine everyone is desperate to see him on the pitch but from our point of view there is no rush and it is much more important how many good games he can play for us ,” said Klopp .

A hospital has apologised after a baby died when doctors accidentally cut into his skull during a Caesarean section .
Carson Allen died three hours after his birth on July 3 , 2013 when doctors made a two - inch deep cut into his scalp and skull , causing him to haemorrhage .
His mother, Claire Smith , 41 , has now had an undisclosed settlement and an apology from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The trust said the care Miss Smith received during pregnancy was not up to standard .
Head of service for obstetrics and gynaecology , Dr . Lucy Kean , said: “We reiterate the trust ’s condolences to the family on the death of their son Carson , and apologise for the shortfalls in our care , mindful that no words or amount of money can undo the harm and distress the family have experienced as a result of this case . ”
In October 2011 , she had a gynaecological procedure known to cause complications, and pregnancy should have been avoided afterwards .
The trust has accepted Miss Smith was not properly advised of the risks .
An inquest heard there were several missed opportunities to access a full medical history or even check Miss Smith ’ s medical records properly .
Miss Smith , of Top Valley , Nottingham , said : “ I found the inquest very difficult and have spent the past four years thinking this was my fault .
“ I thought the cut on Carson ’ s head was because of the procedure I had in 2011 – it wasn’ t until the result of the post - mortem that I found out it was caused by a scalpel .
“ As if losing my baby wasn’ t enough, I have been put through hell fighting for the reassurance that I could not have prevented my baby son ’ s death . ”
Miss Smith described her care as “ absolutely horrendous ” and “ unacceptable . ”
She added : “ During my C- section, the doctor cut my baby ’ s head so deeply that he died .
“ I am a good mum and the chance to be a mum to Carson was taken away from me .
“ It has been the worst experience of my life and I doubt my family will ever get over our loss . ”

Updated: Fire destroys several vehicles in Customs warehouse (photos)
A warehouse belonging to the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit , Zone A was on Thursday gutted by fire destroying several vehicles .
The warehouse which was filled with seized vehicles and foreign parboiled rice was destroyed by the fire which occurred about noon .
According to an eyewitness, the fire razed substantial part of the warehouse destroying six trucks , 15 cars / vans and a fully loaded truck with seized foreign parboiled rice .
The eyewitness also disclosed that goods worth several millions of naira were destroyed in the inferno .
But speaking to newsmen , the Deputy Head , Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaki Musibau , said the fire started from a burst cylinder stored under one of the burnt vehicles .

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State , Edgal Imohimi , on Thursday, disclosed how three arrested Badoo suspects hypnotised and smashed their victims’ head while asleep .
Imohimi said this while presenting the suspects to newsmen in Lagos .
He gave their names as Chibuzo Igwe ; Samuel Akaeze a . k . a Samito Gift Akaeze ; Omotayo Abamoyegun and Fatai Adebayo , a herbalist who fortified the cultists before going on operations.
According to him , on Dec . 30 , 2017 at about 2: 30 a . m. the peace of Lagos was disturbed at Alajo Close, Ibese, a suburb of Ikorodu, when three suspects invaded one late Shakiru Yekini ’ s compound where he was killed alongside his wife and his six-month - old baby injured .
“ Abamoyegun usually sprays powder into the abode of their victims which makes them fall into deep sleep after which other members of the gang smash their head with grinding stone .
“ Having certified that they are dead , the suspects use white handkerchiefs to scrub their victims’ blood for ritual purposes .
“ Luck, however , ran out of them when one of the victims raised alarm and the vigilante men on duty alerted policemen who quickly cordoned off the area .
“ Chibuzor Igwe was arrested at the scene and he made startling revelation which led to the arrest of Abamoyegun and Akaeze .
“ Please note that a grinding stone used to smash the victims’ head, smeared with blood was recovered at the murder scene and taken to the lab for forensic analysis to back up our evidence in court .
“ One Gift Akaeze , wife to one of the suspects , Samuel, was arrested for allegedly supplying information to the suspects on where to strike .
“ Abamoyegun also usually takes the suspects to one Fatai Adebayo , a herbalist , who specialises in fortifying the suspects and blessing their stone before an operation .
“ The herbalist has been arrested and his shrine in Ijebu Imosan had been destroyed in an operation which I led , ’’ he said.
The commissioner said that the war against the suspected killers would continue and that the police would not relent until all the killers were brought to justice .
He furthered declared wanted one Alaka Abayomi Kamal following a warrant of arrest issued by a magistrate court in Lagos .
Presented alongside the suspected killers were car snatchers and drug peddlers arrested at Sunday Market , Ogba .

A North Korean missile reportedly crashed into one of its own cities after it failed just minutes following its launch .
US officials said the Hwasong- 12 intermediate - range ballistic missile (IRBM ) was initially thought to have disintegrated mid - flight after it was fired on 28 April last year .
However , new data suggests it landed in the city of Tokchon , around 90 miles north of the secretive communist country ’ s capital, Pyongyang . Tokchon has a population of around 200, 000.
The missile likely exploded on impact, causing significant damage to a complex of industrial or agricultural buildings , The Diplomat magazine reported , citing a US intelligence source alongside satellite imagery.
After its launch from the Pukchang airfield , the missile flew approximately 24 miles to the north -east , the report stated , adding that it flew no higher than around 43 miles.
A US government source said the missile ’ s first stage engines failed around a minute after it was launched .
Liquid - fuel missiles can cause massive explosions when they fail , and satellite images from Google Earth taken after the test show a cleared area where a building once stood and damage to a greenhouse caused by debris.
However , as the publication pointed out , it is impossible to verify whether the accidental strike caused any deaths due to the secretive nature of the North Korean regime.
The report highlights the danger of another North Korean missile test failing at the wrong time . If the missile fell towards Japan, its trajectory may resemble an attack .
The hermit kingdom, which has launched ballistic missiles over Japan since August 2017 , gives no warnings before its tests , leaving nearby countries and the United States little time to determine whether missile launches are a test or a legitimate attack .
The report also warned that the North ’s newly constructed tunnels , hangars and storage sites mean its missiles won ’ t be “ sitting ducks” easily targeted on known launch pads.
The Diplomat article comes as Japan’ s Prime Minister warned that the security situation facing his country is the most perilous since the Second World War because of North Korea ’ s “ unacceptable provocations ”.
“ It is not an exaggeration to say that the security environment surrounding Japan is at its severest since World War Two , ” Shinzo Abe said , as he vowed to bolster the country ’ s defences and protect the Japanese people .

A new book has made extraordinary claims about the Donald Trump presidency .
The explosive new book that claims Donald Trump never wanted to win the election has left the White House in “ total meltdown ,” according to insiders .
Details from Fire and Fury : Inside the Trump White House have rocked US politics , including the astonishing claim that Trump was horrified when he won the presidency , and that his victory left Melania ‘ in tears . ’
Sources told US station MSNBC that Trump was “ beyond furious ” about what had been written in the book, set to be published in full on 9 January, and that White House aides were scrambling to discover what dirt on them might be unveiled .
The President released an extraordinary statement attacking his former chief strategist Steve Bannon , who was one of more than 200 sources spoken to by the book ’s author , Michael Wolff.
Trump said that Mr . Bannon “ has nothing to do with me or my Presidency ” and added : “ When he was fired , he not only lost his job , he lost his mind . ”
Meanwhile , the president ’ s lawyer , Charles Harder, threatened legal action against Mr . Bannon over “ disparaging statements and in some cases outright defamatory statements. ”
Mr . Harder sent a letter to Mr . Bannon saying the former aide violated confidentiality agreements by speaking with Mr . Wolff.
The letter demanded Mr . Bannon “ cease and desist ” any further disclosure of confidential information .
What are some of the bombshell claims made in the book?
Mr . Wolff paints Trump as a leader who does not understand the weight of the presidency and spends his evenings eating cheeseburgers in bed, watching television and talking on the phone to old friends .
In the book, Mr . Bannon is quoted as describing a June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower between Donald Trump Junior, Trump campaign aides and a Russian lawyer as “ treasonous” and “ unpatriotic . ”
Mr . Bannon also speaks critically of President Trump ’ s daughter and White House adviser, Ivanka, calling her “dumb as a brick . ”
He is quoted as saying : “ A little marketing savvy and has a look , but as far as understanding actually how the world works and what politics is and what it means – nothing . ”
Mr . Wolff also writes that Trump believed his presidential nomination would boost his brand and deliver “ untold opportunities ” – but that he never expected to win .
It also claims Mr . Trump Junior told a friend that his father looked as if he had seen a ghost when it became clear he might win the presidency.
What is the reaction from the Trump administration to the book?
In addition to Trump ’ s statement about Mr . Bannon , White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the release left the President “ furious ” and “disgusted . ”
She complained that the book contained “outrageous ” and “completely false claims against the President , his administration and his family . ”
The First Lady’ s spokeswoman , Stephanie Grisham , disputed claims Mrs. Trump was upset about her husband winning .
Ms Grisham said the First Lady supported her husband ’ s decision to run , encouraged him to do so and was happy when he won .
She said in a statement : “ The book is clearly going to be sold in the bargain fiction section. ”

Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports he may walk out on Manchester United this summer as “ garbage ”, saying he sees himself staying long - term at the Premier League giants .
The United boss was in defiant mood when quizzed about his future ahead of Friday ’ s FA Cup tie with Derby , with morning reports saying club officials fear he is disenchanted with life at the club.
“ Look, it depends on what you want to know and what you want to speak about , ” Mourinho said. “ If you want to speak about some news , I say ‘ garbage ’ . I don ’ t find a better word to define the talk .
“ If you want to ask me directly , which I suppose you want , if I see myself next season in Manchester United , I say I see myself here . And, as I said when I arrived , I ’ m going to leave when the club wants me to leave, because I have no intention to leave at all .
“ My intention is to stay, and to work and to improve and to bring the club to where the club belongs and I want to stay . And I don’ t see any reason not to stay. ”
Mourinho has looked an unhappy figure in recent weeks as United ’ s title bid has faltered and they suffered a shock League Cup exit at Championship side Bristol City .
There have been suggestions that Mourinho has been disappointed at the relative lack of spending power at his disposal , claims which he also denied.
And Mourinho was upset at suggestions that his decision to live in a hotel , rather than buying a home in Manchester , is a sign of a lack of professionalism or commitment to the job .
“ Speaking about my work and connecting my work to the garbage news is to say that the worst thing anyone can do to myself , is not to say that I am a bad manager , is not to say that I am under -performing or that I made a mistake in this game or that game , the worst thing someone can do is put one inch of doubt about my professionalism , my dedication to my club , to my job , to my players , ” he said.
“ So yes, the garbage news affected me just on this aspect because it’ s something I don ’ t admit . ”

Mourinho is in early talks over a contract extension with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward and believes he will remain beyond his current deal . The basic three- year contract ends in the summer of 2019 , although the club holds a one - year option to extend .
